Her entrance into the game of thrones is a wild one. Dany also goes from losing one human baby to gaining three dragon babies. This scene is worth watching 100 times over. It’s clear early on that Dany is meant to be the one leading, not Viserys, and she overtakes him and has boiling gold poured over his head as a punishment for being such a prick. She spends the first half of season 1 helping her asshole brother Viserys gain power by being forced to wed Khal Drogo for his massive Dothraki army. The other huge plot-line in Game of Thrones‘ first season involves Daenerys Targaryen (Dany). (Yeah - he used to be a dick.) He had forgotten about that, but since becoming the all-seeing three-eyed raven, I’m sure he’ll have some words for Jaime once he arrives in Winterfell. Oh, and speaking of Bran, he was crippled and nearly killed in episode 1 after being pushed out of a tower by Jaime Lannister. Arya’s training through season 1 and her time in the capital sets the groundwork for who she is today - the ultimate bad-ass killing machine. It doesn’t take long for her to become our favorite Stark, and her season 1 training with Syrio Forel has been the center of a prominent Game of Thrones theory online. The most satisfying Joffrey moment (until his death) comes in episode 2, when he is slapped three times by his uncle Tyrion, who at the time was more concerned with brothels than saving the world (his current state).Īrya Stark is feisty as a young child, often overtaking her brother Bran in matters that “only males should attend to,” such as fighting and archery. We’re introduced to the Baratheon/Lannister family as they travel to Winterfell to recruit both Ned Stark as the hand of the king and his daughter Sansa as the heir to the throne, for Prince Joffrey. Joke is on everyone else because Ghost is easily the best one. Each Stark keeps one direwolf before the runt of the litter, Ghost, is found and left with Jon. Before Ned can put the young wolves out of their misery, Jon Snow reminds him that they are the Stark house sigil and to kill them would be sacrilege. The Stark family comes across a dead direwolf mother south of the wall, a breed of mega-wolf that hasn’t been found there in ages. The Starks are the next to be introduced, led by loyal do-gooder Ned Stark, who we assume (incorrectly) will be around for most of the show.

It’s the first sign that winter is coming for the people of Westeros. They soon discover the white walkers, who haven’t been seen that far south in hundreds of years.

Thrones kicks off with three members of the Night’s Watch investigating wildling deaths North of the wall. The early moments of the season bring us two vital scenes: The introduction of the white walkers and the Stark family finding their direwolves. What happened in Game of Thrones season 1 Some key points from Game of Thrones‘ first season will be glanced over in favor of what will come to be important for the final season. The following points should serve as reminders as to what happened in the season, but focused in relation to season 8. Ned Stark, the season’s protagonist, makes it through to the final moments of the show’s first season, which marks the first of many very surprising deaths that Thrones has offered through the years. The bulk of season 1 is centered on the mental (and at times physical) battle between the Lannisters in King’s Landing and the Starks of Winterfell. That being said, most of the first season happened in what now seems like a small Westerosi bubble. Often so much so that we forgot who sided with whom. Violence, sex, blood, gore, backstabbing and a large number of well-cast, compelling characters. Game of Thrones‘ first season was everything the show embodied and the reason it grew to be such a global phenomenon. Follow along with us every Sunday to get set for the final season of the greatest show on television. Over the next seven weeks, FanSided will be releasing a summary of each Game of Thrones season, focused on the key points relating to the show’s final season, set to begin on Apr.
